David n'ose pas passer sur le tronc d'arbre qui enjambe le ravin. Il a le vertige et subit les sarcasmes de ses camarades. S'il inventait une machine pour ôter la peur! Un matin, alors qu'il est prêt à tenter l'aventure, il constate que le tronc a été enlevé: un garçon s'est sérieusement blessé en tombant dans le fossé. La peur a sa raison d'être car elle incite à la prudence. -- Après la peur du chien, de la forêt, François Gravel aborde la peur du vide.
