A kind but poor peddler is visited three times in his dreams by St. Patrick. The good saint tells him to head for Dublin and wait on the bridge over the irver Liffey, for there he will hear good news. Teh man is starving and barely has the strength to rise, let alone travel. But finally, with St. Patrick shouting in his ear, he hastily heads for the faraway city and finds the clue to his fortune.
